UMSL’s track and field teams in St. Louis have welcomed a new Assistant Coach, Aaron Stallworth, a native of the city.
Originally from Chesterfield, Mo., Stallworth has traveled around the country lending his talents to track and field teams at colleges such as Wisconsin Lutheran, Defiance College and Bethel College. His expertise in the sport and coaching has brought great success to each school and its athletes. Stallworth’s impressive coaching history includes two NCAA DIII All-Americans, nine DIII national qualifiers, 41 all-conference performances, six conference champions and six Academic All-Americans.
Stallworth’s own collegiate competitive history started at Aurora University where he competed in sprints and jumps while earning his bachelor’s degree in sport management. Since then, he’s applied his experience and education to develop training plans for student-athletes and recruit future champions.
Steve Piccuci, UMSL’s current men’s and women’s track and field head coach, has a vision to grow the program and expand the teams. With Stallworth’s excellent track record — excuse the pun — Piccuci hopes to utilize those talents in all applicable areas.
When speaking about Stallworth, Picccuci said, “His knowledge and experience will help UMSL Track & Field attract committed and hardworking student-athletes both in the classroom and on the track. I know he will build upon the successes our young track teams have already had and take the program to the next level.”
A running theme — another pun, so sorry — is growth. “I am very excited to be a part of the UMSL community. I can’t wait to get to work with these athletes and help this program grow,” said Stallworth.
